ShE-SPN Fantasy Drag Update: Season 6 Episode 10

Call up Owen Wilson and let's go crash a drag wedding! This week, love may have been in the air, but it was drama that was on the main stage. The queens were challenged to take heterosexual couples and transform the grooms into brides for a dragged out wedding. Each queen needed to put their grooms/he-brides into face, heels, pads, and a handmade wedding dress.

This challenged proved difficult for all the queens except BenDelaCreme, who has Wild Wild West-esque skills with a glue gun, and Bianca Del Rio, who could tailor a potato sack and sell it as a couture gown. While Dela's rosette creation looked pretty enough to attract some butterflies, Bianca's flower Fifi looked elegant enough to pollenate. Bianca will win an additional 5 points this week, as well as a trip to Hawaii (Maybe she'll wear her creation from Episode 1).

Darienne, Joslyn, and Adore ended up in the bottom three. Darienne's gothic creation did not match her traditional cocktail party dress, but she was safe. Joslyn tried bringing this wedding to church, channeling gospel in all its glory, but Adore's high energy holy grind once again kept her from sashaying away. We will miss our foxy lady. Two points from Adore, and four points from Joslyn.

Off the bat, Darienne slayed
Winning mini challenge for throwin’ mad shade
And she found a way,
To make her rival Dela’s performance look grey.

Dela, Milk, Joselyn, and Trinity
Lacked dat flow and dancing ability,
While Laganja, Bianca, Darienne, Courtney, and Adore
Felt what they spit down to the core.

On the main stage 8 points apiece,
Bianca, Joselyn, and Adore got the judges vibing from their seats.
Don’t be mad girls cuz you got beat.
Cuz Adore got the win, 5 points so sweet.

This week on the dark side of the moon,
Darienne, Milk, and Trinity’s flower failed to bloom.
Milk and Trinity, and Trinity in a repeat
Sent a b*tch packin in ‘utter’ defeat.

So sad to see Milk sashay,
4 points from any that had her stay.
Congrats to Trinity, yet she still did fail
And suffers a loss of 2 in this week’s tale.

On this season's Snatch Game, the queens cooked up some flavorful characters to serve America. Yes, in many cases, it was snatch served on a silver platter. On the main stage following Snatch Game, the queens were asked to recreate a classic RuPaul recipe for the judges and America to sample.

The top dishes of the week included Adore's Anna Nicole Smith inspired 'vodcuh' flavored vodka appetizer, Bianca's Judge Judy inspired 'beef with the other queens' main course, and Ben DelaCreme's Maggie Smith inspired spotted dick dessert. The judges favored their sweet tooth and gobbled up some DelaCreme with a cherry on top, awarding her an additional 5 points.

All three of the queens in the bottom were among the least seasoned (both in age and flavor). While Julia Child is known for her excellent cooking, Milk's portrayal of the cooking superstar seemed a little half-baked. Gia Gunn's Kim Kardashian fishy soufflé fell flat, and any hope of saving that meal on the main stage were spoiled by a lash mishap. So much for not liking 'messy queens.' The judges criticized Laganja's Rachel Zoe impression for being little more than an empty plate with a few blocks of cheesy catch phrases.

Laganja and Gia were named the bottom two, and we're asked to lip sync for their lives. In the end it was Gia who couldn't handle the heat, and was asked to leave the kitchen.

As an added bonus, whoever guessed 3 questions for the Snatch Game will receive an additional 3 points in their total score!

SHE-SPN Fantasy Drag Update: Season 6, Episode 4

Tonight’s episode is brought to you by trees, because as Ben DeLaCreme has taught us: If there is no tree, there is no shade. However, as global warming is heating up the competition, we are starting to see a divide between the number of Live Oaks and Womp-womp-womping willows. The storm is a’coming, and the weakly rooted will blow away like dust (or a fart) in the wind.

In this week’s mini challenge, the queens competed in a battle of camouflage, where some queens were bamboo-zled at the feat of determining a biological female (female) from a psychological woman (shemale) from a photograph. Ben DelaCreme and Adore Delano’s sharpened senses and keen intuition won them the mini challenge, and were named leaders of their herd. No points will be awarded for these mini challenge winners.

In this week’s main challenge, the two competing matriarchs starred in a two act production called Shade: The Rusical, where the queens were tasked with showing their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent through song and dance. Courtney Act, Adore Delano, and Ben DeLaCreme fought their way to the top of the food chain, but it was Courtney Act whose hunger for the win was most evident, naming her the main challenge winner (lioness) and the winner of an additional 5 points.

The three sloths of the group were Trinity, Darienne, and April, who were criticized for their lack of star power. In the end, it was Trinity Bonet and April Carrion who were up for extinction. In evolution, only the most fit survive in a habitat, and it was Trinity who found familiar ground in gospel lip sync. April, in only Mid-March, was moved from the endangered species list to a growing list of extinct queens.

While it should be noted that overfishing is becoming a serious issue worldwide, the species of fish doing quite well in the Camera-Confessional River System is the ever-adapting Gia gunnnicus, who scores 6 points this week.

GASP! In this week's mini challenge, we saw some of the queens balls- their beach balls that is. The queens competed in a campy, beach themed lip sync of Ru Paul's song, Click Clack (Available on iTunes... just like all of her other songs...). The top and bottom that had the best chemistry under the towel were Adore and Milk, and they were dubbed the mini challenge winners. However, as the mini challenge winners were shown in this week's LogoTV app, mini challenge winners received no points.

For the main challenge, the queens chose their teams, and Darienne was delighted that it didn't bring back memories of being picked last in gym class. Milk and Adore both trusted the team chemistries they developed in the first week, and chose their players based on familiarity. Milk elected for a more aggressive and authoritative give-and-go offense, while Adore's strategy seemed to be a more lax 'go fight win' from the sidelines.

There are times when we all enjoy an underdog story with a well fought championship game. This wasn't one of those times. The screams and cremes (mostly from Courtney and Bianca's heated scene together) from Team Milk hit a bulls eye, and Miss Darienne Lake won the main challenge for keeping her head in the game, giving her 8 points in this week's competition. Meanwhile, Team Adore seemed to be firing at-will... blindfolded. Team Adore's lack of both precision and accuracy left Adore, April, and Vivacious in the bottom three. However, the two in the final shoot-off were April and Vivacious. And while Vivacious' agility and cone work gave a valiant effort, in the end she was skewered by Game of Thrones' Lena Headley and the other judges, and Vivacious was asked to sashay away. She joins Magnolia and Kelly on team #packyourshit.

Mini Challenge winners: Adore and Milk (no points awarded)

Main Challenge and Camera whorror points:
Darienne: 5 pts for main challenge win + 8 pts for winning team + 2 points for camera= 15 pts
Bianca: 8 pts for winning team + 2 pts for camera= 10 pts

Milk: 8 pts for winning team + 2 pts for camera= 10 pts

All Hail Peaches Christ.. and Her Upcoming 'Clueless' Tribute Featuring Willam

3/7/2014

Picture
All Hail Peaches Christ: The self-described cult leader and writer/director from San Francisco whose preachings, teachings, and productions have attracted followers near and far. What’s in the punch at a Peaches Christ show? Well, it’s something potent enough to attract stars such Elvira, Linda Blair, John Waters, and Mink Stole. Not only have Peaches Christ productions featured RuPaul, but his shows have also attracted and featured several Ru's Drag Race veterans including Sharon Needles, Alaska Thunderfuck, Jinkxx Monsoon, and Willam.

Peaches is always finding new ways to expand her craft and capture more souls. Back in October of last year, Peaches and his fruity followers gathered at the Castro theatre for the production of "Return to Grey Gardens," where he performed alongside Drag Race Season 5, and reigning America's Next Drag Superstar, Jinkx Monsoon.  Peaches followed that up with a movie tribute to "The Craft" which starred Sharon Needles, Alaska Thunderfuck, Honey Mahogany, Peaches, and several local San Francisco queens. This week, Miss-ter Christ's following will venture into a vapid world in the Clueless tribute starring Willam Belli and Mahlae Balenciaga.

Drag Official spoke to Peaches to find out a little bit more about the Peaches Christ movement, and what she has in store for us!

Drag Official: Who is Peaches Christ and how did you get your start in drag?

Peaches Christ
: Peaches Christ is the alter-ego of writer / director Joshua Grannell.  Joshua attended film school at Penn State, where his senior thesis film Jizzmopper: A Love Story won the Audience Award upon graduation. It was during the production of this film that the character Peaches Christ was born played by Joshua himself. After graduation, Joshua moved to San Francisco, inspired by the tales of the Cockettes and the bohemian, underground art scene that seems to perpetually flourish there.

Peaches Christ has been featured on VH1’s Totally Gay!, AMC’s “Movies That Shook the World”,  Gus Van Sant’s Academy Award-winning film Milk,  HBO’s original series Looking, and the upcoming feature film Diary Of A Teenage Girl starring Kristen Wiig and Alexander Skarsgard.  In 2007 HDNet provided Peaches Christ with her own national TV series, entitled “Midnight Mass With Your Hostess Peaches Christ” executive produced by Mark Cuban.

Today, Peaches Christ continues to produce mega movie events at the historic SF movie palace, the Castro Theatre. These events draw over 1,000 attendees to each new production and have featured special guest stars Cloris Leachman, Appolonia, Barry Bostwick, Sharon Needles, Pam Grier, Patricia Quinn and more.
D.O.: What can we expect from your upcoming shows?

Peaches: I'm super hard at work on our upcoming Clueless show starring Willam, Mahlae Balenciaga, and myself.  I've written a script that is sooooo silly but I think that diehard Clueless fans are going to love it. The show is set for March 8th at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. I'm also about to present one of our first fully realized stage-shows in Los Angeles where we are moving the entire production from SF to LA.  On April 5th, we'll be presenting our "Return To Grey Gardens" with Jinkx Monsoon and I at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.  I'm really excited about it and hope that all the staunchest LA people will come out to see it!
Picture
D.O.: What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment?

Peaches: My proudest accomplishment was writing and directing my first feature film All About Evil. We then took the movie on tour with a live stage-show preceding premiere screenings and the whole thing was an unforgettable experience.
If you are feeling like there's something missing in your life, you should consider joining the Peaches Christ cult. Think of all that weight you'll lose for not having to carry around your soul anymore. A bribed scientist once concluded that a soul can weigh up to 7 pounds. Screw the stomach flu- you may just be one Peaches Christ show away from goal weight.

SHE-SPN Fantasy Drag UPdate: Season 6, Episode 2

Picture
In part two of the Drag Race doubleheader, we find our queens from the first group celebrating their first round victory with bubbly, cake, and balloons- and I'm not just talking about Ben DelaCreme's outfit. The queens left a victory party and an intimidating message on the mirror to ward off unwanted competition.

Once the second group got settled in, it was time to toss them into the ring with the bulging... egos of the pit crew in a sexy photoshoot challenge. While Courtney Act definitely ruffled some feathers, it was Trinity K (are we allowed to say Kardashian) Bonet who pinned her co-stars down and shined. Her strength in body, and composure in face earned her 3 points.

On the main stage, the queens were challenged to transform party leftovers to the main attraction. Milk and Trinity wowed the judges with their well constructed, avant guard looks and performances. However, they were left on the sidelines when Bianca Del Rio's beach bunny couture scored the winning touchdown, earning her 5 points.

Darienne Lake's perky breaststroke wowed the judges, but the rest of her outfit was criticized for not venturing much past the starting blocks, while Magnolia Crawford's hoe-down left the hoe down. The two lip synched for their lives, and it was Magnolia Crawford whose contract expired, and she was signed as a free agent to team #packyourshit.

Taking into consideration the challenges and runway, the standings are as follows:
Bianca: 8 points for being among the top queens + 5 points for a main challenge win
Trinity: 4 points for being safe + 3 points for a mini challenge win
Milk: 4 points for being safe
Courtney: 4 points for being safe
Joselyn: 0 points for being in the bottom 3
Darienne: -2 points for being in the bottom two
Magnolia: -4 points for being in the bottom two and going home

Adding in the camera whores of this week:
Bianca: 9 points
Joselyn: 8 points
Courtney: 7 points
Trinity: 7 points
Milk: 4 points
Darienne: 4 points
Magnolia: 4 points

While they were not competing this week, two queens from the last group also got one-on-one camera time this week:
Adore: 2 points
Ben: 1 point

Runway fan vote points from Week 1:
Ben: 5 points
April: 3 points
Adore: 1 point
Gia: 1 point

Here are the grand totals from the double header premier:
Bianca: 22 points
Ben: 21 points
Gia: 16 points
Trinity: 14 points
Adore: 13 points
Courtney: 11 points
April: 11 points
Laganja: 9 points
Milk: 8 points
Joselyn: 8 points
Darienne: 2 points
Viviacious: 0 points
Magnolia: 0 points
Kelly: 0 points

ShE-SPN Fantasy Drag Update: Season 6, Episode 1

We interrupt your normal programming to bring you this important news update: almost live from the ShE-SPN headquarters, here is the ShE-SPN update with your host Polly Poptart.

In the first episode of RuPaul's Drag Race season 6, RuPaul tossed a curveball by showing only the first half of a double header premiere. That wasn't the only double header of the weavening though... *cough* Vivacious *cough*. After the new queens showcased some of their signature styles entering the workroom, Miss-ter RuPaul quickly threw them into the first mini challenge, where the queens jumped through the air to snatch the perfect photo for celebrity photographer Mike Ruiz. Laganja showcased her legs and body awareness and scored 3 points by winning the mini challenge. You go Ganja!

BenDeLaCreme was the largest point scorer of the week. Dela's cake couture was a homerun with the judges. Her desperately delicious outfit, witty jokes, and professional stance had all the right mechanics to win the main challenge, rewarding her 5 points.

With the threat of a strikeout imminent, we saw Kelly Mantle and Vivacious trying to handle the heat of the lip synch for your life. While Kelly Mantle fought off some tough pitches from the judges, it was Vivacious who managed to stay safe with her fierce New York-style walk and lip synching. With Kelly Mantle striking out, she lost 4 points, and sashayed away to the locker room to #PackHerShit. Vi, being in the bottom two, remains in the competition, but still loses 2 points.

Taking into consideration the challenges and runway, the standings are as follows:
Ben: 8 points for being among the top queens + 5 points for a challenge win
Laganja: 4 points for being safe + 3 points for a mini challenge win
April: 4 points for being safe
Gia: 4 points for being safe
Adore: 0 points for being among the bottom queens
Vivacious: -2 points for being in the bottom two
Kelly: -4 for striking out and going home

BUT WAIT... we also give points to the camera whores!
Confessional points are as follows:
Gia: 11 points
Adore: 10 points
April: 4 points
Kelly: 4 points
Laganja: 2 points
Vivacious: 2 points
BenDeLaCreme: 2 point

Here are the overall standings after the first episode:
BenDeLaCreme: 15 points
Gia Gunn: 15 points
Adore Delano: 10 points
Laganja Estranja:
9 points
April Carriòn: 8 points
Vivacious: 0 points
Kelly Mantle: 0 points

Season 6 Spotlight: Magnolia Crawford

Magnolia Crawford
Age: 27
Hometown: Seattle, Wa
Current City: Las Vegas, NV
Claims to Fame:
Shelarious YouTube sensation
epitome of campy
Thinnest Contoured Nose on the West Coast

Picture
Magnolia Crawford is the epitome of a campy queen, her humor dry enough to chaff any pair of thighs. She manages to find the perfect balance between realistic, polished looks and staying true to her self-depreciating sense of humor (for the record: that sculpted nose is intentional). She isn't shy about wanting to be famous, and her clumsy lust for fame in her videos and tweets are the crown jewel of her unique humor.

Many queens get an early start in their careers, beginning their drag days in those mid-late teen years, Magnolia just couldn't wait that long! The first time this queen stepped out of the house in drag was at the ripe, young age of 12 years old! It seems that the early start has helped this queen perfect her art and polish her character into the comedienne that we know and love!  As the self-proclaimed love-child of Jackie Hill, Amanda Lepore, Courtney Love, and Satan, this queen is sure to deliver some snarky punchlines during the season. While comedy is one of her more obvious talents, Magnolia doesn't want you to forget how "absolutely stunningly gorgeous! ....and humble" she is, as mentioned in her Meet the Queens video. So humble!

Magnolia Crawford might be described as a church going newslady-type with mannerisms of Joan Allen's Betty Parker from the television show Pleasantville. While some of her season 6 sisters became known through their relations to previous contestants (Darienne, Laganja, and Trinity) or appearances on other reality television shows (Courtney and Adore), Magnolia's biggest claim to fame is her absolutely shelarious YouTube Channel. Many of Magnolia's videos feature her salesmanship skills as she tries to push fictional products, infomercial-style, complete with side-splitting 'fine print' captions and legal disclaimers. Add entrepreneurial to that list of Magnolia's positive attributes!
While she creates a different character unique to each video or performance, her campy and vibrant personality shines through, ensuring that we don't forget the true essence (or shall we say milk) of Magnolia. Her experience writing, editing, and acting in short video clips reminds us of several challenges we've seen in past seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race, so these skills might just come in handy down the road this season.
When it comes to the sudden surge in popularity and increased bookings and traveling for tours that will inevitably come to be following her time on RuPaul's Drag Race, Magnolia is probably more prepared than anyone. As a flight attendant, she is no stranger to the skies. Having traveled frequently between Seattle, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, Magnolia recently relocated to Sin City, where her boyfriend of two years also resides. Although she auditioned for RuPaul's Drag race out of peer pressure from family and friends, we think Miss Bitchastic herself is ready for this competition of epic proportions, and can't wait to see how she does!
Are you #TeamMagnolia?

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6: The GIFs Are Coming, The GIFs Are coming!

12/20/2013

With RuPaul's Drag Race beginning its sixth season this February, there are so many things to be excited for: the "friendships", the runway, the breakdowns (perfected by Mimi Imfurst), and obviously the shade of it all.
Picture
However, there is one thing that I am so excited about that it is eating away at me, and I need to put it out in the open: THE GIFs! Yes hunties, those few second clips that replay over and over. The sassy remarks that we send along with text messages, help tell stories, or post to Tumblr. You know the GIFs for next season are going to make us gag, but hopefully we’ve readied our throats better than Willam did.
Picture
What will come in season 6 that will make the perfect GIF? Is Laganja Estranja going to give us the best death drop to date? Will Bianca Del Rio read a bitch to filth? Is Courtney Act going to reveal a third (WigsByVanity) lacefront during a lip sync? Could Milk do a fierce trip on the runway circa Akashia? Ugh, girl. There are just so many possibilities that the sweat is making the frosting melt off my caked face just thinking about it. Tune in come February for all the glamour, the catfights, and the sweet touching moments.. but also for the GIFs!
As a refresher, we put together some of our favorites GIFs from the RuPaul's Drag Race GIF vault. After all, a queen must know her herstory.
