Facebook Begins Celebrity Verification Process: A Surprising 10 Queens Made the Cut!

If you havn't noticed in recent weeks, Facebook has begun a celebrity verification process similar to that seen on Twitter, the goal being to confirm people are who they claim to be on the website.

According to Facebook, some well-known public figures and Pages with large followings are verified by the website as having an authentic identity. You'll now see a blue badge (see: right) next to a verified profile or Page's name.

These profiles and Pages may include:

- Celebrities
- Journalists
- Government officials
- Popular brands and businesses

At this point, Facebook has only verified 10 drag queens. Interestingly, the verified queens were not just the ones with the most 'Likes' on their page. The currently verified queens definitely seem to be some of the most popular, but many top queens were skipped over. RuPaul himself, with the most Facebook Likes of any queen, was not even verified.  So, how did Facebook decide which queens to verify?

According to the site: "Facebook automatically verifies certain accounts to help people find authentic profiles and Pages. We're not currently able to accept requests for verified profiles or Pages from the public."  So, is the website just picking and choosing the queens it wants to verify?

Here is what a verified queen's profile looks like now:

Picture
..But on to the important part. which queens were verified...?

who made the cut?
JuJubee
Carmen Carrera
Willam Belli
Manila Luzon
Jinkx Monsoon
Detox Icunt
Shangela
Bianca Del Rio
Courtney Act
Milk

Pandora Boxx has more than 10x as many Likes as Milk, yet she has not been verified. Facebook also skipped over huge names including Sharon Needles, Alaska Thunderfuck & Raja Gemini. No queen with "Fan Page" at the end of their profile made the cut either (See: Chad Michaels, Latrice Royale & Phi Phi O'Hara).

Just something to think about. Is this just a collection of a Facebook employee's favorite queens or is there something more to this list? How do you think Facebook made its verification choices?

Easy... Facebook is stupid. I have had problems with the name thing, and even having a public figure page I had problems with them!

I think this post is ridiculous and making something out of nothing. I'm sure the pages need to request to be verified.

Shangela and Milk? Uh, I think they're both swell, but seem to be missing in the talent category...was the Celebrity category based on maybe some day they will find it? Both need to be refined in makeup, and some contributing actual talented attributes...the rest all have some kind of reason the audience wants to stay. Just saying.

I get Shangela though. She is fantastic performer and has gone on to do lots of things. Since Drag Race she's been Dance Moms, Toddlers & Tiaras, Detroit 1-8-7, Glee, etc. etc. I don't know what Milk has done, but for the most part the names are those who have had some kind of success outside of RPDR.

Champagne? More like an expired bottle of Boone's Farm on a humid Midwestern summer day.

No Adore? Really? You'd think having an entire album available on itunes and a stint on American Idol would warrant a page...

Lady Bunny had to change her page name to her real name, Jon Marc Ingle, or Facebook threatened to shut down her page for using a fake name. True fact!

If RuPaul isn't verified then clearly Facebook needs to get it's shit together. Without RuPaul, all of these queens would have significantly lower booking fees!

Guys it's no big deal. This isn't s o me crazy conspiracy. If anything, the more popular pages should take more time to verify just to make sure. Calm down, all in good time.

I was only verified so people wouldn't find my porn pics while searching the book for Asian cleansing foot-pads.
