According to Facebook, some well-known public figures and Pages with large followings are verified by the website as having an authentic identity. You'll now see a blue badge (see: right) next to a verified profile or Page's name.
These profiles and Pages may include:
- Celebrities
- Journalists
- Government officials
- Popular brands and businesses
At this point, Facebook has only verified 10 drag queens. Interestingly, the verified queens were not just the ones with the most 'Likes' on their page. The currently verified queens definitely seem to be some of the most popular, but many top queens were skipped over. RuPaul himself, with the most Facebook Likes of any queen, was not even verified. So, how did Facebook decide which queens to verify?
According to the site: "Facebook automatically verifies certain accounts to help people find authentic profiles and Pages. We're not currently able to accept requests for verified profiles or Pages from the public." So, is the website just picking and choosing the queens it wants to verify?
Here is what a verified queen's profile looks like now:
|
who made the cut?
JuJubee
Carmen Carrera
Willam Belli
Manila Luzon
Jinkx Monsoon
Detox Icunt
Shangela
Bianca Del Rio
Courtney Act
Milk
Just something to think about. Is this just a collection of a Facebook employee's favorite queens or is there something more to this list? How do you think Facebook made its verification choices?
