Jinkx Monsoon is sweeping the nation with her original show, The Vaudevillians! America's Next Drag Superstar just announced that the hit show has been scheduled for a fifty-four show run in Provincetown's Art House Theatre in Cape Cod next summer. After her win on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Jinkx and her musical partner, Major Scales, were booked at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City. The show was to be one night only, but has since been extended five times. The Vaudevillians now has shows scheduled all the way through November.
In addition to its success in New York City, the Vaudevillians has also hit the dusty trail, with bookings all over the country. They’ve now performed on stages in a number of cities including Washington D.C., Richmond, Philadelphia, Chicago, and, of course, their hometown of Seattle. They’ve also gone international with bookings in Toronto and an Australian tour schedule for next year. The show is set to be filmed live in the near future, hopefully making it available to audiences outside those able to catch them performing on the stage.

It was of little surprise to learn that Jinkx and Major Scales – who, in the show, portray Kitty Witless and her husband Doctor Dan Von Dandy, respectively – met during a course in commedia del’arte during their time as undergraduates at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. The show is full of quick wit, improvisation, and the traditional stock characteristics that one would expect from a commedia troupe. It is during their undergraduate careers that the two co-wrote the show and first began performing as the rag-time duo.
With their Provincetown run and a three month tour of Australia scheduled for 2014, The Vaudevillians is well on its way to performing nearly 200 shows. Both Major Scales and Jinkx Monsoon have expressed their surprise at the wild success that the show has had. In an interview with TheBlackoutBlog, Jinkx reflected on how shocked she was that “some stupid joke [they] came up with in [their] living room is now [their] bread and butter.” However, with the incredible writing, the clever musical adaptations, and the captivating performances delivered by these two stars, it is easy to see why the show has taken off! We look forward to seeing much more of The Vaudevillians in the future, and we can only hope for a sequel!
