It's hard to believe that Manila Luzon has time for anything these days between her international touring schedule and her seemingly constant stream of appearances in music videos, web series, and television shows. Yet, Manila still finds time to give back to the community. Manila recently headlined the University of the Philippines Alumni in Minnesota (UPAM) fundraiser event in Minnesota to raise money for a scholarship fund, and we applaud her.
According to the organization, many Filipino students at the University of the Philippines do not have enough money to finish paying their final semesters and therefore risk not graduating. The alumni of the University of the Philippines who now live in Minnesota raise money each year to pay for one or two students' final semester, thus guaranteeing that they graduate with a degree.
The UPAM secretary and mother of Manila Luzon, asked Manila to headline this year's event and the crowds flocked to the show to donate to the cause!
Earlier this year, Buzzfeed ranked Manila as one of the 27 Filipinos Who Make You Proud To Be Pinoy, and this is exactly why. Manila Luzon, who actually fashioned her drag name from the capital city of the Philippines (Manila) and the country’s largest island (Luzon), is truly a class act, and its no wonder so many fans look look up to her.
