With such a fierce personality and the moves to back it up, many people don't know that Laganja Estranja is still relatively new to the drag scene. As Laganja began performing in competitions, she quickly made a name for herself, "smoking out" the competition and racking up numerous titles: SHOWGIRLS Amateur Contest (2011), Drag Idol (2012), Queen of Queens (2012), Drag Search @TheAbbyWeho (2013) and Palace Drag Race (2013).

Picture
The dedication Laganja has to her art and the Bachelor of Fine Arts she received in dance and choreography from the California Institute of the Arts have served her well in becoming one of the strongest up and coming queens around. Not only is she is as versatile as they come, but her attention to detail and performance skills never leaves the audience disappointed! From Bette Middler to Britney Spears to Iggy Azalea, she performs to every different type of music. And when it comes to a runway, this queen knows how to stomp it out!

Her unique style, daring to take on some unconventional elements and even cross over into boy-drag, has set her apart from other queens. High fashion and edgy, yet comedic and campy, she falls into her own category of drag, and is an all around threat.

Picture
As a member of the House of Edwards, it's no surprise that one of Laganja's greatest strengths is her dancing. Thats right, Laganja's drag mother is none other than THE Alyssa Edwards (which of course makes Shangela her drag sister). When Laganja isn't performing, she is teaching dance at a number of places including her drag mother Alyssa's studio 'Beyond Belief'.

The House of Edwards has slayed the main stage in past seasons, so there is a little pressure on Laganja to keep it going. If you've watched any of her performances, though, dancing is the last thing Laganja has to worry about.

Picture
Laganja's talents extend one step beyond dancing to the impressive art form of contortionism! Her performance alongside Christina Aguilera during the American Music Awards certainly turned some heads. That flexibility seems to continue into all aspects of her drag career. While many can boast that they exhibit a versatile range of looks, Laganja takes this to a whole new level. During a single performance, she can switch from high class couture to funky androgynous, and it's completely natural and refreshing. She even appeared for an Austin Young photo shoot in a fringe style of drag known as "tranimal". Fan favorite from Season 5 of Drag Race, Alaska Thunderf*ck, is also a former tranimal. We see a lot of the same fun, unique qualities in Laganja's drag and hope for equally great things from her this season!

Laganja uses drag as more than just a source of income. As she mentioned in an interview with Revolutionary Gay Magazine, drag "not only pays the bills but also pays [her] soul." Laganja has dedicated her craft to bringing joy and inspiration to the members of her audience, and delight fans with creative routines, sexy backup dancers, and her infamous death drops!
Laganja really hit the season 6 announcement running! She already launched a new website with Laganja Estranja merchandise, and released a snippet of her new single. Get into it!
Oh, and check her out in Dope Magazine. We cannot even keep up with everything this girl is doing right now.

Bitch needs to drop the whole weed obsession. Its not funny or cute, and I'm really bored of it.

Also, how rehearsed is absolutely everything that comes out of her mouth? Not a fan, sorry bout it.

Medical Cannabis is not just an obsession, it is my medicine that I am legally prescribed here in the State of California. And I come from a musical theatre background, so rehearsal is key to me as a performer. I don't just step out on stage without having put a lot of thought and effort into my work. Attention to detail is my strongest suit, and I am sorry you can not look past the image to see my heart and passion! But thanks for the comment!

Speaking as a long-time fan of yours - I think Lucas is referring to the Meet the Queens video, where your answers did admittedly sound a little over-rehearsed, especially in comparison to the other queens.

Wow Hi Laganja, I totally didn't expect a reply from you! Now let me explain my points a little better. Firstly if you're prescribed Cannibis then thats fair enough, I just don't think its cool how *all* your merch is weed-themed, as well as tons of outfits I've seen you in, and a huge amount of photos of you miming taking a drag. That shit gets boring.

And second, Patrick is completely right, it was your meet the queens video that made me think that you're too rehearsed. I do think you're super talented and even though I wouldn't call myself a fan, I'm looking forward to seeing you compete because I do think you will slay it. But just from that video, the first impression many people got of you, you sounded kinda forced. From what I've seen of your performances, you're fierce and definitely not over-rehearsed, because you can turn it out.

Laganja, I just love how you always stay classy even when you could and should just LET THEM HAVE IT. Some people just don't understand certain things and they go and pop off because it doesn't coincide with their won sense of reality. BTW, great piece on you! I feel like I know you better now. KUDOS!

You had me at SICKENING! That death drop gave me life. Made me excited to see the premiere and I'm so glad you were in the first batch. Keep serving it. I love being made to laugh!

Ganja is my signature! Telling me it's over played is like telling Micky Mouse he needs to loose his ears.

Check out this phone interview, I address many of your comments and specifically rehearsal process: http://youngartsfoundation.tumblr.com/post/70409002476/the-art-of-drag-by-grace-weber-last-week-we

Ganja is the Sanskrit origin for the term cannabis and Laganja is her name. Got it?

I understand that opinions are like assholes and we all have one. Here's the thing, if you don't like someone why bother commenting stuff on someone's page? I mean you really think she cares what you think? Just saying

She cares very deeply about what everyone thinks. It's part of her problem. Ganja is what u call a try hard. It's an unfortunate condition that afflicts the nerdly. Aside from her handicap and wretched taste she is a sweet thing with a lovely heart. Give her some time and she might learn to relax and laugh at herself a bit. She needs a little dose of plain old fashioned coolness, Fonzie style. Right now she's a wanna be cool kid. Love her when she drops the tacky "momma" bullshit.

I blame the over-rehearsedness in the video on nerves: it's the first time the (new) audience gets to see a queen and they're being judged usually on just that, at least until February. I wasn't too fond of the clip either, but I can see her doing very big things and she comes off very humble about the whole experience. So I like her. Curious to see what she can pull off :)

This bitch turns the party. Surprisingly, my favorite performances of hers are actually to slower ballads. She puts so much emotion into what she does its actually quite moving. I saw her perform to "Sing For Me" by Christina and she KILLED IT.

How can she not comment? Really. All the queens are commenting on social media. She's not saying anything that pertains to RPDR, she is defending herself.

Lawd have mercy, though. I've been a quiet admirer from afar and now can scream about it. I love Ganja, my 2 year old son loves Ganja, and y'all will too.

And if you don't, sucks to be you!
