Top 10 RuPaul's Drag Race Runway Don'ts

11/18/2013

As Season 6 is fast approaching, anticipation for the jaw dropping runway looks, the catty drama, and the absurd challenges is mounting. There comes a time, though, when every fan of RuPaul's Drag Race just looks at the screen and thinks to themselves, "girl, WHAT WHAT WHAT are you doing?!" There are definitely some unwritten "dos" and "don'ts" for the runway. Here are our top 10 biggest crimes committed on the RuPaul's Drag Race main stage:

outfitS that fall Apart

You know you've done something wrong if your outfit starts to abandon ship during the critiques, or even worse, while you're still on the runway! At least Jiggly's post-apocalyptic couture (read: baked potato-couture) made it all the way to her lip-sync before it completely fell apart. Latrice wasn't quite so lucky with her broken bracelet mishap.

Flipping Your Wig

Over and over and over, queens have thrown off their wigs during the heat of a lip sync. And over and over and over, RuPaul and the other judges have ripped them apart for it. This has never worked out for a queen, yet they continue to flip those wigs.

During Season 5, after one of the sickest runway tricks of all time, RuPaul amended his warning never to remove a wig while performing.

AMENDED: Never remove your wig while performing, unless you're wearing another wig underneath @RuPaulsDragRace

Forgetting The Lyrics to A Lip-Sync

At least Penny Tration tried to cover it up with her handkerchief. Now how does that catch-phrase go, again? ....Oh, right! "Sashay away!"

Boy Drag

Now, don't get us wrong. We like androgyny and gender-bending drag as much as the next person. But if you're going to do it, you had better step it up to the next level and do it flawlessly! Too much boy within a girl within a boy just makes everyone confused.

Wearing Flats

We're all for a kinky boot now and again, but heels are a runway classic. We love Jiggly, but nothing about this outfit was working for her. Thank gawd she can lip sync! And she only improved from this point on.

Flashing Your Panties

With the dancing and splits and back-flips that go on during the lip syncs, it would be unreasonable not to forgive accidental panty-flashes once in a while. Walking the runway, though, is a different story! Raja's fierce chocolate look made up for her fashion faux pas, but Serena's granny-panty realness led to a swift sashay from the competition.

Flashing your Tuck

To be fair, the lip-sync was fierce, the dancing was adorable, and Willam did look very much like a young country starlet. But Willam's mishap was so bad Logo had to blur it out. Lesson learned: always wear panties on the runway, even if you don't think you'll be lip-syncing!

Falling down

Akashia gets some points back for her spectacular recovery, but falling is never sexy. No no, definitely not.

Picking Up Another Queen

Mimi's stunt, which ultimately sent her home, prompted RuPaul to remind us "drag is not a contact sport". Well, that is unless, of course, Ru decides to have a wrestling challenge.... Too bad Mimi wasn't on Season 4!

Throwing up

Willam won Logo's Most Shocking Moment for this little stunt, but memorable or not, puking in public is never cute.  It did make for quite an exciting season finale, and well, look at her now!

Re: Wig flipping not working - Shannel coined the act on RPDR and was successful in her lipsynch.

Shannel didn't flip her wig. Shannel's wig fell off. Read a book dear.

Actually, if you watch the reunion, Shannel states that she did it intentionally, so. Let's not read until we've watched the show.

Well... Yara Sofía did it in dramatic moment, I almost cried

I would add taking too many items of clothing to reveal a manly body during the lip synch to the list. Remember Milan. Ugh.
