Venue Announces Bianca Del Rio As RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6 Contestant

As anticipation builds for the official RuPaul's Drag Race season 6 cast announcement this month, details are slowly beginning to surface. The highly rumored New York City queen Bianca Del Rio has been on our radar for a few months, but an event posting by Mount Airy Casino has further confirmed our suspicions. The casino's December burlesque show advertises Bianca as "this season's RuPaul's Drag Race contestant" (see below):

This announcement, her disappearance from social media during the time of filming, and her close connections with Drag U's Dean of Drag Lady Bunny all point to her involvement on the show. Bianca's polished look, extensive theatre background, and campy attitude should make her a fierce competitor!

We cannot wait for the Queen of Mean to turn this competition upside down. Are you #TeamBianca?

I find it very weird that Kelly Mantle, Courtney Act and Bianca del Rio are on s6. I mean... they're already extremely well known in Drag community, and even outside. I know Raja was, because of ANTM and all, but... and Chad as well known, as well as Willam, but I mean, this is taking it to new heights. Kelly and Courtney I knew well before I got interested in drag or even knew about RPDR... Bianca I would've thought was legendary the same way as Hedda Lettuce og Sherry Vine. Guess not? They all got Wikipedia-pages too. Confusing as hell.

@Gantranrrar: I can understand your reaction. It's sort of like American Idol's old rules on being an "amateur" vs. the Voice which can have people who have had record deals but just didn't have massive success. I think the difference here is that getting on RPDR6 could mean success in mainstream entertainment. We know of these queens because we seek them out or are tuned into that entertainment genre, but they are not even to the level of d-list celebrity on a mainstream level.

Still there is a line. Dame Edna won't be a contestant for example, nor will Peaches Christ. I think there is pressure as the show goes on for it to top itself. This explains why Queen Bee Ho, Vicky Vox, Miss Fame, and even tranimal Jackie Hell (trust me) could be in Season 7.

There will always be less experienced queens cast and I think they have the potential to do well if they can grow up before our eyes. Or for the most sophisticated of them, strategically hold back and then reveal their strengths. It's whatever makes for good TV. And sometimes that means stacking the deck. But when most of the contestants are ringers. it then becomes it's own version of All Stars from day one. I'll be watching.

I think Kelly Mantle is way above a d-list celebrity status. She's been a working actress and Hollywood celebrity for years. I heard her say on a TV interview that she might do Drag Race someday because she thought it would be fun. Not because she needs it for her celebrity status.

Sorry, but appearing in a single episode of various shows does not make her a Hollywood celebrity... an actress yes, but not necessarily a celebrity. On a mainstream level, I doubt many people know who she is.

No one knows who Kelly Mantle is. She's not even D-list.

Now I'm thinking about drag queens and the d-list celebrity status. Hmm, Joey Lawrence, Amy Sedaris, Carmen Electra, MC Hammer and Erik Estrada are d-list celebrities. Okay, maybe Carmen in a C minus at this point. And here we go, and I hate to say it, but RuPaul, while an icon, is technically a d-list celebrity. She probably could work her way up to higher if she appeared in public in drag more (red carpets, etc.). And did more movies.

Maybe Willam is getting to d-list level. Maybe.

That said, I don't need these folks to have mainstream success. I like them just the way they are. But dammit, when is Ellen going to have RuPaul and some of the casts on? Seriously.

At least RuPaul was on the Wendy Williams Show, but that was 3 years ago now. Other hosts need to give Ru respect and book her and her girls. Props to Oprah for that piece on RuPaul recently. Now where's Bravo with the Real Drag Queens of South Beach?

@Consuelo,

You don't want your mother or sisters to look like them. They are not biological women, do you know?

I feel like this kind of leak is a breach of contract enough so that should Bianca find herself in the final three, they'll give the win to somebody else (a la Angelea of ANTM All-Stars fame... or rather infamy).
