Carmen Carrera is certainly no stranger to the cameras with her time on RuPaul's Drag Race and her rapidly growing career as a model. She's also no stranger to trans activism, speaking out as a role model for her community. It should come as no surprise, then, that Carrera will be one of the main focal points of VH1's new docuseries, TransAmerica. The series plans to follow five Chicago trans women in their everyday lives as they struggle to balance busy schedules, career goals, relationships of all types, and the stresses of everyday life as a woman - trans or otherwise. While the show will feature trans women and talk about trans issues, it goes beyond just that. As Susan Levinson, executive VP of Programming For VH1, said:

It would be easy to focus on the transgender aspect, but this series is about so much more. This is a show about a group of compelling, gorgeous young friends who are on a unique journey while staying true to their authentic selves. We believe that message resonates.
Carmen will be relocating to Chicago for the eight week series, and will live there as a role model to the other cast members. She will be joined each week by a cast of four other fabulous women (pictured below in order from left to right): Giselle, a recent college grad prepping for reassignment surgery; Natalia, a beauty consultant working toward reconnecting with her family; Victory, a woman who faces and overcomes transphobia in her goals to becoming a doctor; and Sidney, a party girl who's looking for a focus in life.

In addition to sporting an amazing cast of girls, the series is also going to be produced by the one and only Tyra Banks. Tyra has been a long-time trans ally, bringing trans issues to the mainstream with her support for past Top Model contestants Isis King, and most recently, Virgg from the Cycle 20. With such a stunning and talented cast and the amazing producing talents of Tyra, we're sure that Carmen and her girls will bring us a series that will move, educate, and entertain audiences all across America.

Spill the T. Will you be watching?

Will I watch? No.
Why, because I'm thoroughly disappointed in Carmen, her complete disprespect for RPDR and the GLBTI community after her comments re she-male, so many transgender people have written in protest of how Ru is ALWAYS saying she pays no mind to negativity, yet she allowed the voice of one to be heard above the cried of the many.
Shame Carmen.
SHAME.

Shame? Shame for standing up for herself and other trans women?...

Trans people don't have an inherent responsibility to support gay people. They HAVE, regardless, for the past 50 years, but it's not their responsibility to hold unwavering support for us when we insult them.

PLEASE!!
Its the gays who have supported trannies for years not the otger way around.
If ir weren't for gay clubs where would trannies go to party? Exxept tupperware parties obviously.

Shemail - represented mail for the characters they play of women of women illusionists.

Anyone with a molecule of intelligence knew that. She bit the hand that made her famous!
Personally I didn't understand the situation until I read the forums and so many transgendered people responded with anger as carmen does NOT represent their views.

I'm not against trannies. I have many a trannie friend. I'm against 1 person making a statement for a group of people who do not have the same opinion

Why do these articles still bill her as Ru Pauls Drag race Carmen Carrera?? Please leave that show out of her name. She does not deserve it.

I would have watched had Carmen Carrera not been involved but she's done more damage to the Trans community than one could imagine. While she's busy calling people the N-word and attack our allies she's supposed to be a role model? No way. Sorry. Won't watch one second of this trash.

Carmen doesn't "represent" anyoneor anything but "her" own mental/psychological/pathological confusion. "She" is not a Transsexual but in this PC crazed era no one wants to point this out. At most this person is simply a fake and deeply needy, attention seeking, disloyal homosexual creating drama & controversy with the goal of lengthening that 15 minutes of fame. It. 's terble to think such low brow machinations work so well but even worse that anyone, especially the trans community, would fall for such an obvious mentally ill scheister.

As a trans-woman I am shocked and disgusted at the use of the word "tranny" within these conversations. I don't use that word and would agree with those who say it's like calling a homosexual person a "fag". It's derogatory like the term "shemale" regardless of the way in which it is being used. This is 2015, NOT 1985 and things are slowly progressing, respect our societal changes.

Also, myself and plenty of other trans-women that I know DO NOT frequent gay establishments because of the lack of respect for us as trans-women. I have had terrible experiences with gay men in night clubs that have bashed me worse than any straight person has ever... And I am supposed to stand behind the gay community?! No, and there are a lot of trans-women who share that same opinion.

Some gay people are just worse than heterosexuals in terms of violence. It is my firm belief that the T in LGBTQ should not be a part of that acronym & community.
