After receiving a newsletter full of homophobic undertones from her former high school, drag legend Coco Peru created a fierce video rebuttal. As she mentions in the beginning of her video, the newsletter announces an upcoming event featuring a speaker who had devoted his life to "assisting persons with same sex attraction to lead chaste lives," and working with parents of "such folk."
Coco was not about to take this sitting down! Instead, she decided to send her own message to the world, showing us just how great it can feel to embrace who you are and live true to yourself. Her music video cover of 'Feeling Good' not only features her stunning good looks, but also her amazing vocal talents, with clips highlighting groundbreaking LGBT activists and their work. Just in case some viewers missed the message she was trying to convey with the lyrics and video choices, Coco added in some special messages to young people, as well as to her former high school and their speaker. In her first direct address, Coco speaks to the LGBTQIA community and says: "Now, listen. I'd like for all of you young "such folk" to know that there is a big, beautiful world out there, and we are waiting for you with open and loving arms!" She then turns her attention to her former high school with one short and simple message: "Go f*ck yourself!"
Between the vocal talents, the use of video clips from cornerstones of queer pop culture, and the overwhelmingly positive message of acceptance and love that Coco sends, she certainly has us feeling good, too! Watch the full video below.
